  • Twitter Hackers Continue To Hit Top Multinational Brand Profiles [PICS]

    Someone’s playing silly buggers.

One would think the security on a top multinational brand’s social media account would be watertight, but over the last two days we have watched with mouth agape while the Twitter feeds of two major brands have been hacked. First, Burger King was hacked, and rebranded as their arch-rival McDonalds.

Yesterday, Jeep became Cadillac on Twitter.

Hackers replaced the background image on Jeep’s twitter profile to a Jeep vehicle with a Cadillac logo and a McDonald’s paint job.  The makeover of both the Burger King and Jeep are almost certainly the work of the same group of hackers.

Bloomberg on Tuesday reports that recent cyberattacks on some 40 companies, including Apple, Facebook, and Twitter, were the work of “an Eastern European gang that is trying to steal company secrets.”

We’re not so much on the “stealing company secrets” part. We have a hunch that the “Eastern European gang” are more interested in churning out some high quality trolling.

It goes without saying that these major competitors have had to put rivalry to rest in cases like this.

    McDonalds spoke person :

We empathize with our @BurgerKing counterparts. Rest assured, we had nothing to do with the hacking.

    We wonder who’s next…
