Iron Man 3 has been released, and if you, like us, have been jealously eyeing the technology of Tony Stark, then you need to pay attention to this. Sure, there is no actual working Iron Man suit in existence. But you’ll be interested to know that there isn’t any reason why there shouldn’t be. Because for the most part, the technology already exists in bit parts.
Repulsor Ray
German lab technician and Iron Man fan, Patrick Priebe used his spare time to create a hand-mounted laser/repulsor glove. Take a look at the video.
Although you can’t vaporise foe with the laser, you can you can definitely incapacitate evil-doers for a few seconds by shining the 1,000 milliwat ray in their eyes.
Inner-Armour Information Screens, AKA Google Glass
Ever wondered how Stark gets those popup updates whenever he needs them? Google doesn’t, and neither should you, not since they released Google Glass last week, anyway.
The Classic Jet Pack
Personal jetpacks have apparently been around for longer than you thought – seriously. In fact, the first design dropped in 1919. Martin Aircrafts in New Zealand has developed the originally-named Martin Jetpack. Hand over $1,000,000, and you’ll have yourself 30 minutes of flying time a pop.
Protection
The Military Exoskeleton known as The XOS 2 exoskeleton,is something DARPA (The US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) has developed to improve the physical performance and strength of US soliders.
The suit, intended for logistics support is said to also increase strength of the person wearing it, making it possible to punch through three inches of wood. And its inbuilt hydraulics system gives the wearer the strength of three men. Quite mean. Annoyingly, the suit isn’t fully mobile… Yet.
Mind Control
Without the use of mind control, the rest of this “outfit” would be pointless if you ask us. Tony Stark controls his own suit with the use of his mind, and via voice command, so it might come as a shock if I tell you this type of technology exists.
Samsung’s Emerging Technology Lab has invented an electrode fitted cap which can help the user make use of an adapted Samsung Galaxy tablet device with no need for touching or vocalization. AMAZING!
The Real Power
Even Iron Man needs a source of power for his technology. We might not be able to offer you an option like Stark’s chest-mounted reactor, but we have another option, which is a thousand times bigger, for now. The “Arc reactor” which lies in Tokmak, is actually a Cold-War-era experimental fusion reactor from the Soviet Union. Regardless of their size or reason for development, they both have the crazy power you may need on your adventures.
