In 1983 at an International Design Conference in Aspen, a young Steve Jobs (28 at the time) gave a tech talk and afterwards added some historical gems to a time capsule planned to be unearthed in the year 2000. The time capsule was “lost” for 13 years because of the landscape changing before being unearthed by National Geographic Channel’s team from the TV Show, “Diggers”.
The capsule ended up containing the mouse from Apple’s first mass-marketed Lisa computer, along with a Rubik’s Cube, an eight-track recording of The Moody Blues, a June 1983 copy of Vogue Magazine and a six-pack of Balantine beer meant for whoever dug up the capsule’s contents.
Here’s some pics of Steve Jobs’ mouse from the time capsule.
A recording of Jobs taken at the conference indicates he had the iPad in mind over 30 years ago:
We will find a way to put [a computer] in a shoebox and sell it for $2,500, and finally, we’ll find a way to put it in a book
The “Diggers” episode featuring the Aspen Time Tube being unearthed is scheduled to air in early 2014.
