Stop Instagramming your food. All this “Food Porn” on the web has French chefs’ aprons in a bunch. Finally – the food industry is getting over hipsters sharing their meals on the Internet.
Top chef, Gilles Goujon, who runs a three-star restaurant in France, has had enough of people taking photos of his food. He says that “food porn” ruins the surprise of his dishes for potential clients and infringe upon his intellectual property. He also finds the standard of photography from a smartphone to be poor in most cases.
Another French chef, Alexandre Gauthier, claims that taking a photo of your food detracts from the dining experience. Gauthier has added a no-camera picture to his menu, something that you are more used to seeing in an art gallery or museum. Goujon is trying to put a stop to it by placing a message in his menu asking customers to refrain from photographing his cuisine.
Other chefs are more in favour of the ‘food porn’ saying it serves as valuable marketing.
