A woman, somehow, managed to sue a man for taking her virginity, which in itself is bizarre. But the fact that the court went in her favour takes the cake.
According to Shanghai media, the woman, surnamed Chen, was promised marriage by the man, but when Chen found out that he was married, she sued him for swindling her out of her virginity.
A spokesman for the Pudong new area people’s court confirmed the case and the judgment, but said the man had appealed against the ruling.
Chen was awarded $5,000 compensation from the accused man.
“Violating the right to virginity might lead to harm to a person’s body, health, freedom and reputation … it ought to be compensated,” the court said, though it did not explain how it reached the precise figure.
