Most schools have that one teacher who gets all the kids in a tizz, causing many awkward classroom belt-tucks and giggles. A clue, it’s the class everyone actually attends and tries very hard to contribute an answer or two given half a chance.
On the other side of the equation, those of you in the teaching game know that engaging in sexual conduct with a student is a big no-no. But what about an ex-student, surely that isn’t as bad right? In the case of Ruth Vaughan, a former teacher at the prestigious Oakham High School in the East Midlands of England, it doesn’t seem to matter at all. Metro reports:
Miss Vaughan, a newly qualified design and technology teacher who started at the school [which Student A attended] in September 2012, told the hearing she had sex with Student A during his second week of University.
She accepted during her evidence that it did not make any difference to the appropriateness of the relationship that he was no longer at the school.
Vaughan has now been banned from the classroom for life, despite the fact that the sexual encounters only occurred once the pupil had left the school. A tribunal ruled that she had abused her position of power and trust and fell short of the standards expected of the profession.
Bad news for the former teacher, and worse news for some of you still harbouring hopes of hooking up with your former art teacher behind the woodwork room next to the recycling.
