Saturday saw photographer Guy Smallman snap a picture of an on-duty officer keeping the peace at a far-right protest in London. Protesters were largely well-behaved and were treated to the sight of this bearded wonder…
Of course the internet promptly did its thing and the police officer was dubbed #HipsterCop. Much fun ensued…
Apparently the officer in question is aware that he has become something of an internet sensation, with one of his fellow coppers giving him live updates as the Twittersphere erupted. Here’s Mashable:
Another officer who was at the march, Sergeant Nathan Shickle, noticed the meme — and apparently was standing next to the officer as the hashtag went viral.
Shickle said on Twitter that he and Hipster Cop were both having a laugh about the whole Twitter craze in real-time.
Nice to know that the officers had such a handle on the situation that they had time to peruse Twitter. Here’s hoping the bearded wonder and his buddies carry on the good work.
