It’s been a while since the last ‘blackface’ incident around these parts, perhaps people have come to their senses and realised it’s not exactly acceptable party attire. That doesn’t mean it’s not going on around the world, of course, as the latest uproar in America clearly illustrates.
Celebrity chef Paula Deen was torn apart on social media after tweeting a tribute to the 1950’s TV show I Love Lucy, a tribute that was quickly shown to be in very bad taste. Deen’s son Bobby is playing Ricky Ricardo, no problem, but he is wearing make-up in an attempt to appear more Latino. The picture below:
To add fuel to the fire Deen has already been fired from one job for her racist remarks, the Food Network dropping her back in 2013 when she admitted to regularly using the N-word.
So how has she dealt with this latest stinker? She’s only gone and fired her social media manager who she blames for dragging up the picture (taken in 2011) and posting it without consulting her.
Perhaps for her next birthday she’d like to dress the family up as the Williams family, that seemed to go down well last time.
