We know that the last few weeks have seen the issue of race at Stellenbosch’s tertiary institutions come to the fore once more. That process has been spurred on by Luister, a short film made by the media company Contraband Cape Town.
Aside from some violent scenes at nearby Elsenburg Agricultural Training Institute (which would have done nothing to ease tensions), there has been much discussion as to how Stellenbosch University can address the feeling of exclusion and discrimination many students feel.
Here the film-makers (Markus Hegewisch, Declan Manca, Erik Mulder and Dan Corder) talk about why they made the film and the process that went along with it.
