On the same day that Jacob Zuma further lined his pockets at our expense, passengers on an SAA flight from Cape Town to Jozi were treated to a rather unusual sight.
Yes indeed, what you’re looking at below is Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa flying in economy class like the rest of us mere mortals. Check it out…
No private jet, take note certain other leaders. TimesLive reports:
His spokesperson‚ Ronnie Mampoepa‚ said Ramaphosa took an ordinary commercial flight to Cape Town on Monday and returned the same way.
“As a political leader you (have) to make tough political choices. In such an economic climate‚ it would include the use of economy class‚” he said.
“That was his preference but it was done within the context of being prudent with state resources‚” he said.
“The deputy president was expressing confidence in SAA‚ in a state-owned enterprise‚ to deliver a quality service.”
Maybe Pravin Gordhan is really cracking the whip over there – he has continually stressed the need for government to cut costs so here’s hoping the trend continues.
