Been wondering how your nightly cap of white powder enters the Mother City? Well, of late, it has been smuggled in chocolate.

This was discovered by Cape Town police after they arrested four people at the Cape Town International Airport, confiscating an estimated street value of around R4 million.

The latest arrest was of a 40-year-old woman from Jozi, who arrived at the airport on Wednesday from the Middle East. Police spokesman Andre Traut explains:

She was found in possession of 3kg of cocaine with an estimated street value of R1.2 million. Once charged, she will make a court appearance in Bellville on a charge of dealing in drugs.

The day before another woman was arrested with 2.9kg of the good stuff worth around R1.1 million. It was stashed in multiple chocolate containers.

Officials got suspicious when the woman couldn’t produce a receipt for her purchase.

On Monday a further two suspects were caught with 3.8kg:

We have reason to believe that the suspects are linked to the same syndicate using the same method of poorly concealing the contraband in chocolate packaging.

We are pleased with the outcome of the latest interventions at the airport and deem the arrests as a major blow to the drug trade.

While syndicates continuously try to out-smart airport officials, they really need to start fine tuning their ideas as those Lindor balls weren’t a bad way to go.
