  • The ANC Youth League Are Serious About Disrupting This Month’s Springbok Tests

June is a big month for Allister Coetzee and his Springbok team, who are set to kick off his reign in charge with three tests against the Irish.

It’s no secret that Allister Coetzee is required to deliver on two fronts, fans wanting good results and a commitment to deliver on transformation targets laid out by the Minister of Sport (HERE).

The ANC Youth League, on the other hand, aren’t all that keen on the matches going ahead in the first place.

They have previously threatened to protest during the June internationals; and have again reiterated their intent according to BusinessTech:

Secretary-general of the youth league, Njabulo Nzuza, said the three-Test series would be disrupted by protests, but he did not reveal which games would be targeted…

Nzuza…said that the new squad had done little for transformation.

“We believe more must be done. It’s not enough to have black players included, only for them to sit on the bench – we want to see them on the field.”

The youth league said the SA Rugby Union had not taken its demands for transformation “seriously”.

“We will forge ahead with disrupting rugby games,” said Nzuza.

Saru’s general manager for corporate affairs, Andy Colquhoun, said: “We have met the ANCYL to discuss it and continue to engage with them.”

The ANC Youth League have mentioned buying tickets to the game and disrupting travel arrangements (HERE), but it remains to be seen what methods are actually used.

The first test takes place this weekend at Newlands.
