When news hit that surfer Mick Fanning had been attacked by a shark at the J-Bay Billabong Pro in 2015, the world responded in various ways – it was, after all, the most well-documented event in the history of surfing.
Here in South Africa we took it lightly. Shark attacks are a common occurrence, and boy, did Mick do well fighting it off! From an “interview” with the attacker (HERE), to the Internet having a go (HERE), there was even a “balls up” advert by KFC – HERE.
Now, a year later, Mick Fanning is doing extremely well.
Although his story is nothing new, most people – those out of the surfing community, that is – only know him from the attack. So ESPN’s E60 has put together a short documentary on the legendary surfer’s life.
If you don’t know it, I refuse to spoil the story. Take a seat back and enjoy an inspiring short on what it takes to be at the top.
