To say that space is at a premium in our cities is something of an understatement, and you can count yourself lucky if you manage to land an apartment in Cape Town’s CBD that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.

So you’ve done well and you’re all moved in – congrats, time for a little housewarming braai me thinks.

That’s when your building’s body corporate decides to drop the bombshell. Sorry ladies and gents, but you won’t be gathered on the balcony listening to the sizzle of meat.

I know of two friends currently suffering from this affliction, and a quick chat in the office revealed a couple more. Everyone’s up in arms, but what can you really do?

Well here’s a little something you might want to wangle, because it turns out many corporates will actually allow a small gas braai.

You know, something like this gem:

That would be the Weber Q1000 Grey, which you can pick up on Takealot for R3 950 HERE.

It might look pretty compact but it still packs a punch – check out all that grill space:

Maybe you’re thinking ‘hell, if I’m buying a gas braai I’m going to make it count’, which is why we’ll show you the Weber Q1200 with Stand.

Tell me this isn’t going to look great on your balcony…

Given that it’s almost full-blown summer around these here parts I think it’s time you made a plan, because caving in to The Man isn’t going to cut it with your mates.

Do you really want to venture out to the ‘burbs on a Sunday, throbbing headache from a few too many the night before, in order to throw some meat on the braai?

Can you smell that? Yes indeed, that’s the smell of meat and victory rolled into one.
