Cristano Ronaldo conquered Spain, and now he’s set his sights on the Serie A.
The Portuguese superstar signed for Juventus earlier this month, and jerseys bearing his name are flying off the shelves.
You might want to rein it in with the ‘they’ll make his £99 million transfer fee back with those sales’ talk, because the club itself only banks around 10% of the revenue generated through jersey sales.
Still, a pretty penny being made, and that huge transfer fee may prove to be shrewd spending in years to come.
That’s not why we are here, though, because the real topic of discussion is the Real Madrid tribute video dedicated to one of their favourite sons.
Here’s some of the club’s statement that accompanied the video:
Real Madrid would today like to place on record its thanks to a player who has shown himself to be the best in the world and made his mark on one of the greatest periods in our club’s history and on the world game.
Apart from the titles he has lifted, the honours secured and the on-field achievements during these nine years, Cristiano Ronaldo has been a role model in terms of commitment, hard work, responsibility, talent and self-improvement…
Cristiano Ronaldo will forever be one of Real Madrid’s biggest icons and will represent a unique figure for future generations.
Real Madrid will always be his home.
Manchester United fans might not like that last line, but Ronaldo will always be remembered as a Real Madrid legend first and foremost.
This is why:
You just know that people are already arguing about whether Ronaldo’s farewell video or Messi’s farewell video will be better.
Cristiano, you’ve done well. I suppose there’s a reason to watch Serie A now, too.
If you haven’t yet watched the documentary, Ronaldo, you best get on that.
