Usain Bolt Training To Be A Football Player [Video]

The Jamaican superstar has always talked up his footballing skills. As he tries to make his mark in Australia, his teammates are putting him through the paces.
during Usain Bolt's first training session with the Central Coast Mariners A-League squad at Central Coast Stadium on August 21, 2018 in Gosford, Australia.

Usain Bolt isn’t the kind of guy who was going to hang up his sprinting boots and go quietly into the night and, throughout his track career, he always spoke about wanting to one day play for Manchester United.

Surprised he didn’t dream bigger and pick a team that will actually challenge for the Premier League title this year, but hey.

His journey to United started in earnest earlier this week, when he began his training with Australian outfit the Central Coast Mariners.

The press was all over this one, filming snippets of the training sessions, and peppering Bolt with questions.

Here’s some of what he had to say:

I’m not sure how good your German is – mine is scheisse – but there’s more footage in this video below:

According to Mariners defender Antony Golec, Bolt isn’t just making up the numbers. Here’s Stuff:

“He knows what he wants, he’s so determined … he has so much self-belief and confidence that he’s going to make it,” Golec said.

“That’s what you need as an athlete. He’s got six weeks to prove not just to the club but to everyone around the world that he is good enough. If he wants it, he’ll get it. He’s done it time and time again. I have no doubt he’ll do it in football.

“He’s got that winning mentality and you have to have that when you’re the best.

“He did the warm-up and passing drill with us, quite similar to what we did when he first trained. It was a light session. There’s still another five and a half weeks that he’ll be involved and we’ll see more.”

Given that Bolt is on a trial, and has yet to sign a professional contract, there is still quite some way to go until he takes to the field in a competitive match.

At the very least, it’s some good press for the Mariners ahead of the new season.
