I’m still waiting for somebody to do a taste test, searching for Cape Town’s best garage pie.
Preferably sober, although there are few things in this world as tasty as a late-night pie to the face. Don’t go hamburger pie, you’re better than that, and once you pass 25, people start to judge.
One man who does know his food is Willyballs, or Will Hobson, who I guess might call himself a foodie.
Together with Sketchbook, the team behind smash hits Suzelle DIY and Tali’s Wedding Diary, Willyballs hit up some of the city’s more well-known bagel outlets and put them to the test.
The write-up from Sketchbook:
If you’re a Cape Townian and you love bagels then the question of where to find the best bagel has probably been plaguing you for years. Local personality and food aficionado Willyballs decided to solve this conundrum once and for all. Is it Kleinsky’s, Giovanni’s, Origin, Max Bagels, New York Bagels or the wild card the Total Garage in Sea Point? Who will win in the war of the bagels? You’re going to have to watch to find out!
So ‘Cape Townian’ is a pet hate of mine, because it’s clearly ‘Capetonian’, but I reckon they did that on purpose just to irk people like myself.
Willyballs, get busy with those bagels:
I guess a clear winner has emerged, although I expect there to be much healthy debate around this one.
Willyballs, if you’re listening, don’t be afraid to take up the garage pie challenge.
Also, if you haven’t yet seen Tali’s Wedding Diary, you need to get on that. You can sign up for the FREE 14-day Showmax trial here, and if you’re an existing DStv subscriber, you can add Showmax to your bouquet for free.
The perfect double act: binge-eating and binge-watching.
