Well played, Liverpool, and congrats to all their South African fans, who celebrated late into Saturday night after watching their side claim the Champions League title with a 2-0 win over Spurs in Madrid.

Funny how there were suddenly far more Liverpool fans on social media than in years gone by, but such is life.

I also just found out Seth is a Liverpool fan, hence the headline he is making me use.

The Champions League semi-finals may have been absolute blockbuster affairs, with the Reds and Spurs both staging incredible comebacks, but the same cannot be said for the final.

It didn’t help that Liverpool was awarded a penalty within the first 30 seconds, which was slotted home by Mo Salah, and changed the entire complexion of the match.

For those who missed the match, here are the highlights – you’ll have to click the “Watch this video on YouTube” text to be redirected:

Another stellar performance by Allison in goal, who has proven to be worth every penny of his reported £67 million transfer fee.

You won’t see the night’s pitch invader, model Kinsey Wolanski, featured in those highlights. We have covered her story, including a visit to South Africa earlier this year, in more than enough detail here.

The win would have been especially sweet for Jürgen Klopp, who had lost his previous six cup finals since winning the German Cup back in 2012.

With Liverpool securing their sixth major European title, the German busted out a remix of 1990s pop hit ‘Let’s Talk About Sex Baby’, by Salt-N-Pepa:

Fair enough. I would be about eight drinks deep within minutes of the final whistle. Not that he took his time…

In fact, even looking like Klopp could be hazardous for your liver:

During the open top bus parade through Liverpool yesterday, Klopp was still in fine spirits, pouring a beer over youngster Rhian Brewster’s head:

    He could still count, though:

    There were some close calls:

He’ll probably have a decent hangover today, but smashing a Rehydrate out of the Champions League trophy should knock that on the head pretty quickly.

Let’s finish with something that is pretty touching – the story of Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson and his father, Brian.

The description for this video sets it up nicely:

Henderson’s dad had throat cancer and asked him not to see him while he was going through treatment. I’ve hugged a parent in the same way for similar reasons and this video is definitely the highlight of the season pic.twitter.com/FgSlaYUUdY

A bit more from the Telegraph:

Initially the former policeman kept the news from his son, then 23, fearful that it might derail his football career. Then, when the radiotherapy treatment began, in which he lost four stone and had a tumour cut from his tongue which left a hole the size of a 50p piece, he told Henderson not to visit him so he would not see him suffering. Lymph nodes were also removed from both sides of his neck.

And there they were, in each other’s arms, in the Wanda Metropolitano stadium, with Henderson holding on tightly which spoke not just of their father-son bond but on the journey they had been through together culminating with him captaining Liverpool to win club football’s greatest prize.

“My dad has been through a lot over the past few years, not only with himself but with his family,” Henderson – whose middle name is Brian – later said. “I am sure he will be so proud to see us win the game and win the Champions League. It will mean the world to him. I am just glad I can put a smile on his face.”

Liverpool certainly put some smiles on faces right around the world.

Perhaps none more so than their German manager.
