Johnny Depp’s libel case against UK tabloid The Sun has provided the public with more disturbing insight into his relationship with Amber Heard than the media could ever have come up with themselves.

In fact, as the case rolls on, The Sun has been running headlines like “Amber Heard Holds Back Tears As She Claims Johnny Depp Hit Her So Hard She Thought Her Eye Had Popped Out”.

This is the type of thing that rags like The Sun live for.

So far we’ve heard Depp’s side of the story, which hasn’t really done him many favours. From descriptions of drug binges to recordings of him moaning like an animal on a private plane, the picture painted of the actor in court doesn’t do much to prove that he was a caring and considerate husband. Heard isn’t coming out of this smelling of roses either.

On day eight of witness testimony and Depp’s version of events, his head of security described the times he had to protect Depp from Heard.

Now we’re moving on the Heard’s testimony, and while I’m sure there must have been somewhat harmonious periods in the couple’s relationship, it’s starting to look like they only happened while both of them were asleep.

Over to BBC for that time Depp allegedly held her hostage.

Ms Heard took to the witness stand at London’s High Court on the 10th day of the case, and her written witness statement was also submitted to the court.

….Ms Heard also described visiting Mr Depp in Australia in March 2015, while he was filming Pirates of the Caribbean, and described the trip as “like a three-day hostage situation”.

She said during this time, there were “extreme acts” of “psychological, physical, emotional and other forms of violence”.

Cool, never watching those films again. The drunken pirate thing is tainted now.

“It is the worst thing I have ever been through. I was left with an injured lip and nose, and cuts on my arms.”

She claimed Mr Depp grabbed her neck, shoved her against the fridge, tore off her nightgown and pushed her against a bar.

“He was pressing so hard on my neck I couldn’t breathe. I was trying to tell him that I couldn’t breathe. I remember thinking he was going to kill me in that moment,” she said.

Depp supposedly also tore up and wrapped the nightgown she was wearing around a steak.

Heard admits that there were times when she “lost her cool” with Depp, but claims it was all in self-defence.

She went on to list all of the celebrities with whom Depp accused her of having affairs. We already knew about Elon Musk and James Franco – let’s see who else has been dragged into the case:

Eddie Redmayne, James Franco, Jim Sturgess, Kevin Costner, Liam Hemsworth, Billy-Bob Thornton, Channing Tatum; even women co-stars like Kelly Garner.

“He also accused me of having affairs with stars I auditioned with, like Leonardo DiCaprio. He would taunt me about it – especially when he was drunk or high – and had derogatory nicknames for every one of my male co-stars he considered a sexual threat.

Most of these nicknames involved vegetables. DiCaprio was ‘pumpkin-head’, while Channing Tatum was ‘potato-head’.

The mandatory summarised list of horrible things revealed in court, follows:

  • An argument in Tokyo resulted in Depp kneeling on Heard’s back while hitting her on the head.
  • She accused him of verbal and physical abuse including screaming, swearing, threats, punching, slapping, kicking, head-butting and choking her, as well as “extremely controlling and intimidating behaviour”.
  • According to Sky News, Depp referred to actresses as “two-bit whores”.
  • Depp apparently liked to both punch and slap Heard.
  • Depp once tried to burn a painting painted by her ex-wife Tasya van Ree. When she tried to stop him, he hit her.
  • Depp allegedly threatened to kill her “many times”.

This turning into a novel, and an unpleasant one at that.
