  • This Could Be The Worst Open Goal Miss You See This Year [Video]

At the age of just 17, Aster Vranckx has done very well to secure a place in KV Mechelen’s starting line-up.

He’s already scored this season for the Belgian Pro League outfit, but he’ll want to forget what happened in the 67th minute of Saturday’s match against KV Oostende in a hurry.

Presented with a great chance to break the deadlock, Vranckx somehow managed to poke the ball into the post, before tumbling over his own feet.

To make matters worse, Oostende scored in injury time to win 1-0, and his miss quickly went viral.

I reckon even Newcastle United’s Joelinton would have found the back of the net here:

On social media, some accounts were merciless. Goal tweeted this out to more than 1,5 million followers:

    This is it.

THIS is the most horrifying miss in the history of football.pic.twitter.com/XqtSOqqcY0

    I’ll have to disagree.

Vranckx’s miss was bad, but let’s not forget Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting’s effort for PSG last year against Strasbourg, when he somehow managed to prevent his own teammate’s shot from going in.

In his post-match interview, Vranckx vowed to bounce back, reports Goal:

“I think I just had to kick the ball in. I took it wrong, and then I missed it,” Vranckx [said].

“It’s a shame that I missed, but I’m just going to look to the next match and not let my head go crazy.”

Good lad – chin up, and a clean slate next time around.

His manager, Wouter Vrancken, came to the youngster’s defence, saying “I don’t blame Aster. When you see how that 17-year-old boy stood out above everyone else today, you shouldn’t blame him.”

On a side note, football fans, how good is it having the English Premier League back again?
