Spring has sprung, bringing with it the inevitable spring clean.

If you need a bit of motivation to get going, here’s a friendly reminder that the holiday season is fast approaching, and getting the house ready for guests is going to be a lot easier if you organise your space in advance.

Now, banish the thought of that pending visit from your hypercritical aunt, and pay attention.

    We’re here to help.

Add the following to your to-do list, and you’re on your way:

    Clean

An effective spring clean is a deep clean. Get rid of the dust that you’ve been ignoring in the corner, and give each room, including the walls, furniture, and carpets a thorough scrub with the best vacuum cleaner.

    Arrange the furniture

Arrange your furniture to allow people to walk through your space without having to navigate a gauntlet of obstacles.

Furniture should be positioned slightly away from the wall to create the illusion of space. Make sure that bigger items aren’t blocking the natural light in the room.

    Declutter

This is the perfect time to declutter your home. Go through each room and decide what you want to keep, what you want to donate, and what you want to store. You may find that there are certain items that you just can’t get rid of but that you don’t need right now.  Self-storage is a simple solution to this problem.

A storage facility shouldn’t be the equivalent of that kitchen drawer where random items accumulate over the years. Rather think of it as an extension of your home that needs to be carefully curated.

    Find the right storage facility

Before you can think about organising your storage container, you need to find the right one, and not all facilities are created equal. Braving a dusty plot, to access your weather-worn container isn’t ideal, and moreover isn’t a great way to store your stuff.

We’ve done the research for you so that you don’t have to waste precious spring cleaning time shopping around.

Stor-Age provides clean, dry, and secure self-storage units that are easily accessible, convenient, flexible, and hassle-free. They’re available in all shapes and sizes, enabling you to store as little or as much as you need.

Sign up here and score 50% off your first month, and you can then renew on a month-by-month basis.

    Sorted.

On to setting up your space, with LifeStorage.

    Packing your belongings

Same-size boxes help with stacking and accessibility.

To really make this work, you’re going to need an extensive range of self-storage boxes, padlocks, bubble wrap, tape, and other packaging items. If you’re smart, you’ll choose a facility that makes these available as part of their services.

    Easy access

Identify the items that you’re likely to need later on like winter clothing, trip supplies like tents and camping gear, or Christmas decorations. Make sure that you pack these items near the front of your container for easy access.

    Labels!

Label everything clearly, and mark it with a number. Then make a list of all of the items in each box. Lastly, if you really want to take it to the next level, make a map of your container showing where each box is so that you can find it faster. Leave the map and the list in the container.

If the task set out before you seems daunting, take it one step at a time.

Focus on the end product, and that feeling of accomplishment and joy, as you close the door to your storage facility, before returning to your newly spruced up living space.
