I didn’t know that Nigella Lawson, who rose to fame for eating things on TV, and using a lot of butter, was still hosting a cooking show.

I thought everyone had moved on to Gordon Ramsay or The Great British Bake Off.

She’s back in the spotlight, and if you want proof that the internet is bored, search #microwavenigellalawson on Twitter.

There you will find countless videos, memes, and ‘laughing face emojis’ as people lose their minds over her pronunciation of ‘microwave’ on her BBC cooking show.

    Observe:

Yes, ‘microwervy’, although you’ll find a number of variations when it comes to the new spelling of ‘microwave’.

    Here’s Twitter with a follow-up:

    Plant these and in a month you’ll have 800 people who can’t pronounce microwave #NigellaLawson #Microwave pic.twitter.com/Xq4vusd4fY

Okay, that last one is pretty funny, but in a contest with the tweets that followed William Shakespeare’s vaccination in the UK, it would lose.

The ‘microwervy’ thing has gone viral, and Nigella decided to respond to the important questions of the day like “was it a joke?” and “has she always pronounced it that way?”, says The Huffington Post.

Some of her reasons include thinking that that’s how ‘microwave’ is pronounced:

Well, I do say it like that, but not because I think that’s how it’s actually pronounced

    — Nigella Lawson (@Nigella_Lawson) December 8, 2020

Why does she say it like that? Because:

I always say it like that!

    — Nigella Lawson (@Nigella_Lawson) December 8, 2020

    And how did it start?

I don’t know. A camp joke that becomes a habit

    — Nigella Lawson (@Nigella_Lawson) December 8, 2020

Some conflicting information there, but I’m sure we’ll all recover.

Her spokesperson felt the need to issue a statement:

“In a nutshell, it’s how Nigella refers to the microwave at home. It’s a bit of a family joke,” they said.

    So there you go.
