Philosophers have spent a fair few centuries trying to figure out whether or not we really exist and in what form.
It’s a point of fascination and has inspired countless novels, television shows, and movies, including The Matrix.
The latest addition to the collection of mind-bending films about reality is Bliss, writer/director Mike Cahill’s take on the subject.
The movie stars Owen Wilson and Salma Hayek, and starts with a simple question: What if your suspicions about living in a simulation weren’t just suspicions?
Collider with the synopsis:
‘Bliss’ is a mind-bending love story that follows recently divorced Greg whose life is falling apart meets the enchanting Isabel, a woman who lives on the streets and is convinced that the polluted, broken world around them is not real.
She believes they are living in an ugly, harsh world simulation inside of the beautiful, peaceful “real” world of bliss.
Doubtful at first, Greg eventually discovers there may be some truth to Isabel’s wild conspiracy theory.
The trailer makes it look a little more sinister than the synopsis lets on:
Bliss debuts on Amazon Prime Video on February 5, 2021.
