Now that Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, have publicly shamed the Royal Family on international television, they can finally put that chapter behind them and start their new lives anew.
For Harry, that means securing a real job, which is something that he’s managed to do thanks to $1 billion Silicon Valley start-up BetterUp.
BetterUp is a company that offers professional mental health advice, life coaching, and “immersive learning”.
Harry, according to The Guardian, will be joining the team as a Chief Impact Officer who will “drive awareness of the need to improve mental health provision”, alongside working on project strategy and advising on charitable collaborations.
The Duke of Sussex said he hoped to be able to use his own experiences using the “the power of transforming pain into purpose” to help BetterUp’s clients with “proactive coaching” for personal development, as well as achieve “an all-round better life”.
He does have some experience in the field.
He founded the Invictus Games, which is an event for injured or sick armed service personnel to use sport as part of their psychological and physical rehabilitation. He also launched Sentebale, a charity that helps young people affected by HIV in Lesotho and Botswana with mental health concerns.
“I firmly believe that focusing on and prioritising our mental fitness unlocks potential and opportunity that we never knew we had inside of us.
As the Royal Marine Commandos say, ‘It’s a state of mind’. We all have it in us,” the Duke said in a press release announcing his appointment.
“What I’ve learned in my own life is the power of transforming pain into purpose.
He goes on to say that his time in the military showed him that mental resilience is as important as physical resilience.
“Often because of societal barriers, financial difficulty, or stigma, too many people aren’t able to focus on their mental health until they’re forced to. I want us to move away from the idea that you have to feel broken before reaching out for help.”
His salary has not been revealed, but we can assume that he isn’t working for peanuts.
Seems like Harry has found his spot in the working world, full of new experiences like submitting his tax returns.
