Maserati has unveiled its second all-electric model, the Grecale Folgore SUV.
Folgore means “lightning” in Italian, while Grecale is the name of an easterly Mediterranean wind.
It is the Italian luxury brand’s second SUV and the first that will be available in an all-electric version, which is the automaker’s next step towards going fully electric by 2030.
In fact, all Maserati models are expected to be available in electric versions by 2025.
In announcing a shift toward fully electric line-ups, the Italian automakers are following a number of other luxury auto brands, including Bentley and Jaguar.
The brand-new compact SUV will come in a range of powertrains, including an all-electric version with 400-volt architecture, which will be available next year:

It looks like gas-powered versions of the SUV will be available for sale later this year, though.
Compared to the Levante SUV, the model that accounted for 59% of Maserati’s worldwide sales last year, reported CNN, the Grecale is a bit more compact.
And quite something to look at:
Over to The Verge for more:
The front grille will feature the Maserati trident logo, while the Folgore brand name will appear driver-side front wing. In the rear, the boomerang taillights are inspired by the Giugiaro 3200 GT and fit in with the trapezoidal lines.
Inside, the infotainment system is powered by Maserati’s intelligent multimedia system. A Sonus three-dimensional sound system includes 14 speakers, or 21 speakers at a higher trim level.
In terms of horsepower, performance figures, and price for the electric Grecale Folgore, we’ll all just have to wait a little longer.
Maserati is producing two mild-hybrid versions of the Grecale, the GT and Moderna, as well as an ultra-powerful Trofeo variant, alongside the electric version.
Maserati forms part of Stellantis, the global automotive conglomerate that includes Dodge, Jeep Peugeot, Citroën, and Fiat.
Tesla, are you paying attention? Looks like there’s some big competition on your hands.
