As the football off-season continues to pass at a glacial speed, transfer news dominates the headlines.

Cristiano Ronaldo shocked Manchester United fans when he made it clear he wanted a move just days before he was due to return for pre-season training, with reports that Chelsea could be tempted to snap him up to fill a Romelu Lukaku-sized hole in attack.

Meanwhile, Liverpool has moved early and decisively by securing the signature of the much sought-after Uruguayan forward Darwin Núñez, although Sadio Mane has left for Bayern Munich.

They will not, however, be looking to flog Brazilian forward Roberto Firmino. Even if they were, Cape Town Spurs would not be the destination, despite what fans on Twitter have to say.

Spurs are hoping to push for promotion to the DStv Premiership this upcoming season and have made a number of new signings. One of those, centre-back Maurice Finck, was announced yesterday.

He does bear a striking resemblance to Firmino and, naturally, everyone was keen to crack the same joke:

I guess you have to applaud the creativity.

According to IOL, Spurs, who were previously known as Ajax Cape Town and finished 14th in the second-tier last season, haven’t featured in the country’s top-flight since 2018.

Maurice, over to you.
