The Füde Dinner Experience is the talk of the town in New York, and after a few teaser images appeared on social media, it’s undeniably one of the more intriguing events going on right now.
The brainchild of artist and model Charlie Ann Max, guests pay about $88 (R1 500) to come together and enjoy – according to the website – “a liberating space that celebrates our most pure selves, through plant-based cooking, art, nudity, & self-love.”
The Füde (the umlaut is to help people pronounce it like “food),” Experience is pretty much a nude dinner party with a group of strangers.
Seems like a hot ticket.
Max started experimenting with naked events in 2020. The dinners were initially invite-only, but she opened them up to people who had heard about them through Instagram or word of mouth. Every dinner she hosted sold out.
Max also hosts other events such as Füde Breath-work Experiences, breathing with naked strangers; and Füde Clay Experiences, naked pottery and sculpting. And even though this may seem like a scene from Ghost, the themes chosen for the parties are all in service of celebrating guests’ uninhibited selves and meeting like-minded folk.
A recent dinner entitled “Embracing your inner rhythms: for individuals to connect with their menstrual cycles” was featured in the New York Times, and since then, everyone has wanted to have a seat at the table.
Guests undressed as soon as they arrived. The main dining hall was warmly lit and draped in sheets of cream and champagne-colored silk. Ms. Max said she makes her events look like Renaissance paintings because “it feels very romantic.”
So, no Spur vibes to be found and kids are obviously not welcome. Max herself approves the invites. She also says that most of the guests come alone, and are in their early 20s to late 50s. Just as long as you are not “some creepy dude that found my Instagram somehow.”
One of the dinner guests, who had just come back from doing cacao, tobacco, and temazcal ceremonies in Nicaragua, and wanted to “keep that energy going”, explained:
“Nudity allows us to connect differently. To strip away what the patriarchy has put on us. Like, uber-sexuality or hyper-sexuality. ”
It’s a high-brow and free-spirited dinner by all accounts and seems like a fun night out.
