It’s sort of hard to be on the internet right now without hearing about protests from whichever North African/Middle Eastern country is falling under the ‘freedom’ bandwagon, but this Google Maps/Twitter mashup contextualizes the online protest movement nicely – and in real time.
Developed by Virender Ajmani, the mashup allows you to scan “protest tweets” from a number of regions – Iran,Bahrain, Egypt, and Libya so far – as they appear online. It’s not exactly an attractive design – I think I caught some Times New Roman in there – but it’s a handy way to visualize the protests as they crop up. Ajmani talks about it a little more on his blog.
