I was amazed to see, on Gizmodo, that a company has brought out a USB cartridge that actually allows you to take digital photos with your old 35mm film camera. But all my hopes were dashed when I read that it was all just a terribly cruel April Fools joke.
The website for the RE-35 cartridge claims that it uses a pull-out, “flexible sensor” and is available in 4.8 and 12-megapixel sizes. It also says that currently it’s available in ISO 400 only.
I started to get all excited, but when I thought about it, the horror of the situation became clear. The device apparently seems to use no power and the slight issue of flexible CCD sensors that don’t exist means that the cartridge can’t exist either.
It was such a good prank that many bloggers were taken in by it. I think mostly because they wish it were true and so do I. Sigh.
