Instead of ripping into these competitions again, I thought I would try to find a few ways that they can be of use to you. Let’s see if I can find a couple of ways to make these seemingly silly, almost pointless competitions useful.

The ANC is outraged at the South African National Editor’s Forum’s reaction to its call to boycott the City Press newspaper, following its publication of Brett Murray’s painting. It has now gone a step further, issuing a statement calling advertisers to no longer advertise in the paper.
Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe says that Zimbabwe and other African countries will never recognise gay marriage because it leads to “extinction”. Speaking at a women’s HIV/Aids conference in Harare yesterday, Mugabe, 88, stated emphatically that homosexuality goes against nature AND women’s rights. Why Mugabe – known for his anti-gay standpoint – was invited to talk at such an event is another question entirely.

The Robert Swan Voyage for Cleaner Energy yacht, 2041, is due to dock in Cape Town tomorrow at 16h00. The eco-friendly yacht is en-route to the 2012 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, which takes place next month. The Film and Publication Board sent a team of five classifiers to view and classify Brett Murray’s “The Spear”. In other words, it stands a chance of receiving an age-restriction. The classifiers were supposed to meet this morning to discuss the size, length and visibility of Zuma’s penis (in the painting) in order to make an informed decision, but have now postponed it till next Tuesday.

Marking another notch in the slow build-up to the sequel to that thing you used to like to quote, here’s the teaser trailer for Paramount’s Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.
