This year was my first Oppikoppi. I went as press, but I had a lot of fun. I can’t believe what I’ve been missing all these years. I know you’re dying to know, so these were the best performances that I saw: Bittereinder, Michelle Shocked, Sipho “Hotstix” Mabuse, Not My Dog, and Mr Cat and the Jackal.
Sinatra. Ol’ Blue Eyes. The Chairman of the Board. It’s hard to know where to start with Frank Sinatra. There’s the young Frank of the 1940’s, the Oscar winning movie star, The Rat Pack years, with his old pals Sammy Davis, Dean Martin and the boys. Then there’s the manic depression, the equal rights activist […]
Regardless of which side of the fence you sit on when it comes to pirating music, you have to respect the guys from Blink-182. For their latest single, they used several unauthorized fan clips that appeared on YouTube to make a music video for their latest single.
You’re going to want to watch this. OK Go have put out a new experimental music video for their new track, All Is Not Lost. You remember that one video with the treadmills? Or with the Rube Goldberg machine? Yeah, this is better than that.
A California taxidermist has preserved Lady Gaga’s now-famous meat dress she wore at the 2010 MTV Music Awards. The dress is now on display at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

It is a well-known fact that Lady Gaga “draws inspiration” from various sources. And a lot of times she actually receives positive feedback from those she openly imitates. But Bette Midler is certainly not one of those people. The famous redhead recently took to Twitter to berate Gaga for copying her mermaid in a wheelchair routine. “Keep the firecracker tits – the mermaid’s mine!”
Matt Goss was the lead singer and one of the twin brothers who made up the band Bros. I was 11 years old when the 1988 hit “I Owe You Nothing” dominated the top of the charts and although I was still learning about what was and wasn’t ‘cool,’ I was sure as shit that […]
Many of you may know the frustration of having your video removed from YouTube, simply because you used some insignificant part of someone else’s song. Now Lady Gaga knows exactly how you feel, even worse, she’s had her entire account suspended by YouTube.
Anyone who has had the privilege of being at a Foo Fighters concert, actually, anyone who knows their music, will know the energy that this band has. Especially frontman Dave Grohl. On Monday night they performed at the iTunes Festival in London. Some fans had a fight and Dave was not impressed. At all. NSFW by the way.

I wrote earlier this morning about a row over the World Cup anthem “Waka Waka”, in which a musician called Dominic James claims that the song by Shakira, featuring Freshlyground, has been incorrectly credited, and has benefitted Freshlyground unfairly. Here is Freshlyground’s reply, which seems to suggest that Sony is mostly to blame for the saga.
According to New York-based musician Dominic James, The World-Cup theme song “Waka Waka” by Shakira and Freshlyground, has been incorrectly credited and has benefitted Freshlyground unfairly. He says that all the original guitar parts of the song were recorded by him and that Freshlyground contributed very little to the worldwide release.
I think a lot of us forget that homeless people are actual people with talents just like the rest of us – sometimes it’s just hidden under some rags and dirt. Take this urban camper for instance: if you were to walk past him, chances are you would not even notice him. But click on this video and you’ll hear something you won’t soon forget.
We all have our days when we forget to charge our phones, or simply exploit its battery power to the limit, and then end up offline, as it were. This is soon to become a problem of the past though because a French telecom company, called Orange, has big plans to save us all from the low-battery blues.
Taxi Violence will be paying yet another visit to 2oceansVibeRadio.com this evening on The Rock Dimension, hosted by Gary Cool and The Passion. And in their own words, “shit will be talked.” The chatter will be especially interesting, given that last month’s confusion over the alleged announcement of Taxi Violence as the official support band […]
This morning Kylie Minogue got down with the Soweto gospel choir, who welcomed her on her arrival in Johannesburg a few hours ago. She tweeted this rather festive picture of herself dancing with the singers, obviously having a great time. Wonder who’ll greet her at CT International next week. The possibilities are endless.
Not many true guitar gods have walked this earth. In the hands of these rare beings, the guitar is more than a six stringed musical instrument; it is a source of immense power, a weapon of mass destruction, a light saber, the most magical of wands, capable of removing a groupy’s panties with a single […]
If you take a little stroll down to your local market, you can pick up anything from a pair of Mikes (fake Nikes) to a pair of Maddibas (fake Adidas) to the best real fake Rolex you’ve ever seen. It’s now only a matter of time before you can pick up a new secretary, wife or girlfriend as well.
The twins officially launched their second studio album today, Running To Midnight, and with that, a rather interesting music video for one of the new singles – Stars Above You. The video is pretty well executed and features a rather intense looking Siberian Husky.
There’s been a lot of hype surrounding the upcoming Kings of Leon gig. Earlier in the year, fans were disappointed to hear that they would have to wait until November, due to drummer Nathan Followill’s bicep injury. Then came the debate over who would open for the Kings. Well the wait is over. And it’s […]
In honour of Father’s Day yesterday, this nifty flowchart got put together acknowledging the influences that fathers have on our taste in music. The infographic handily predicts the kinds of music you’re liable to listen to based on what your dad was playing when you were growing up.
It’s not clear exactly what Amy was on when she performed in Belgrade on Saturday night, but whatever it was, it was a lot. During her 90 minute performance, Winehouse managed to mumble mostly and may have even hallucinated a few times too. The next few legs of her European tour have obviously been cancelled.

Tech site cnet is having an important Reporters’ Roundtable discussion on a topic that affects us all: Why are end user license agreements and terms of service so incredible long and virtually indecipherable? Academy Award winner, Richard Dreyfus, helps to illustrate this point, by performing the iTunes EULA.
In yet another move to convince us that Scandinavian politics makes sense: the government of Norway is inexplicably offering to ‘train’ foreign diplomats in the ways of black metal. As in, the musical genre. Specifically, ‘True Norwegian Black Metal’, which you would know by now if you were a foreign diplomat in Norway.
The ANC Youth League is not very happy with Idols judge Gareth Cliff. In fact, they have called for him to be axed from the show. The reason: he said that the youth of Polokwane have no talent.
