Redfoo: “I’m sexy and I know it.” There, it’s done. Whether you’re a fan of the song or not, LMFAO’s chart-topping hit is now on infinite repeat in your head. It’s one of those typical, infectious beats that seems to worm its way into your mind, even after just reading the title. Well, YouTube sensation “Noah” is about to change that, for the better. Click through for his awesome cover.
You know that Elton John song, “Nikita”? According to Capetonian, Guy Hobbs, he actually wrote the lyrics in the early 80s following a relationship with a Russian waitress called Natasha. But when he submitted it to several publishing companies, he got turned down. In 1985, the song suddenly popped up on the radio as a new Elton John single.
You guys have heard of Kickstarter – that site that lets people pitch their projects for funding to the internet at large, and which has led to new apps, art projects, and a Robocop statue in Detroit. All of which stopped mattering when Amanda Palmer raised $500 000 in four days on the platform – with 24 days of funding remaining.
It’s here people. The D is back. We broke the news last month that Tenacious D was training with Josh Groban and Dave Grohl, and the fruits of their labour has arrived. Here is the first video from the band, as well as details for the ENTIRE album on Soundcloud.
Because what last year’s homage to excessive, overblown action movies needed most of all was a sequel. Starring even more overhauled action heroes – like Chuck Norris and Jean-Claude Van Damme, Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger – and, at a guess, more slow-motion explosions and weapon puns, it looks like something you guys should probably watch.
See, this is what happens when you’re a rock star who fails to die young: you end up doing something in aviation, or in Wales. Or, if you’re Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson, I guess you do both, and depress everybody who remembers when you were still cool.
Congrats to our randomly selected winners, Darryn van der Walt and Denise Montanari! 2oceansvibe friend and famed entertainer/frontman of one of SA’s biggest bands, Jeremy de Tolly is launching his debut solo album, and you can be a part of it. The album is nothing even remotely close to the Dirty Skirts sound we all […]
In an interview over the weekend, Damon Albarn has said it is “unlikely” that there will be any more new material from Gorillaz. He has not given a specific reason, but implied that disagreements between him and his Gorillaz collaborator, artist Jamie Hewlett, could be at the core.
Take it with a pinch of salt, but over the weekend this pretty convincing Lollapalooza internal memo hit the internet. I mean blurry photographs of lineup lists aren’t set in stone, but it looks pretty legit – and includes headline acts by The Black Keys, Black Sabbath, and The Shins. Check out the full thing after the jump.
April Fool pranks played by people tend to be either cruel or embarrassing. April Fool pranks played by tech companies, however, are charming and endearing attempts at being funny for one day every year – and this year’s haul of PR stunts is actually pretty good. Check them out after the jump.
Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan has spent the last three years slaving away at a massively insane internet-only, 44-song concept record, called Teargarden By Kaleidyscope. That album now includes an “album within an album” called Oceania, which will be released via traditional record-label channels, with EMI on June 19. Check out the epic title track below.
This morning we told you about Deadmau5 taking on Madonna via Twitter. He mistook her asking the crowd at a recent concert if “they’ve seen Molly?” for disguised drug use promotion. It turns out she was actually referring to one of her new singles, “Have you seen Molly”, and took to Twitter to correct the electro artist. She even used a pic! Awkward.
Iconic amplifier company Marshall has expanded into selling people drums and headphones over the past couple of years – and now they’ve announced a mini-fridge that looks like an amp on the outside, but has an inside made to hold dozens of cold beverages. Shut up and take my money.
Ard Matthews outdid himself with the music video for his latest hit, Bolder. You would have heard the track on 2ov.fm and Radio 5, but this is the first time you will see the video. Shot entirely on his iPhone 4S (courtesy of Digicape) in India, Ard not only performed in the video, but he […]
Inevitably, at some point during reality TV talent show auditions, a heavyset and/or ugly contestant will walk onto stage and be greeted with ridicule and laughter. But then said contestant opens his/her mouth, and everyone – including Simon Cowell – starts to cheer and cry hysterically. Step inside for that magical moment.
Remember when we all freaked out over that video of five people playing and singing on one guitar? The band’s name is Walk off the Earth, and they’ve just uploaded a new video onto YouTube. This time they cover the song, “Little boxes” from the TV show “Weeds”. Expect loads of cardboard box awesomeness – after the jump!
Former 2oceansvibe Weathergirl Genevieve Morton stars in the music video for Gavin Degraw’s HOT new single, Sweeter. Things get quite steamy, as Gen gets down to some basic lingerie and gyrates on the table, in the bed and against a piano. It’s nicely done and the video also features a HOT red MINI Countryman! Check it […]
Bruce Springsteen is a musical legend. There’s no denying it – he’s got the stats to prove it. But what is he doing at a technology conference? Well, in a time of change, when music is changing – what advice can the digital generation take from rock and roll?
The Shins are putting out their fourth LP, Port of Morrow, next week on the 20th of March, via Columbia Records. Which is neat. Even neater, though, is the fact that you can stream all 10 tracks on iTunes right now. In case free good music is something that you like. Click through for the link!
English heavy metal band Motörhead has launched a line of bottled alcoholic beverages, because that’s just what you do when you’re a band of a certain age. There’s Motörhead Vodka which, sure, heavy metal, makes sense, and they’ve also released Motörhead Shiraz. Because I guess that’s heavy metal too.
The music video for “DoYaThing” — the new collaboration between the Gorillaz, Andre 3000 and LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy – dropped yesterday, as part of Converse’s ongoing “3 Artists, 1 Song” campaign. The promo track was released along with the limited edition Chuck Taylor All Star Gorillaz Collection, which is on sale now.
A couple of months ago, the guys from Jax Panik and iScream & the Chocolate Stix asked you to help write them some new lyrics. They took their favourite entries into studio, added some music, and would now like to know what you think of the results. Both songs are available for free download – after the jump.
Chris Brown’s success at the Grammys – he won an award for the Best R&B album, and performed to a standing ovation – has been mildly overshadowed by people getting upset over his beating up Rihanna. So, like all mature and repentant individuals, he turned to his Twitter account to set things right.
Hoo-ha. That teaser trailer for the new Die Antwoord album, Ten$ion, got pulled from the internet (which means they’ve officially taken it down – obviously it’s still around) because artist Jane Alexander, whose anti-apartheid sculpture the trailer strongly references, told them to. They’re in legal discussions presently.
Well hey there, internet – look what you brought in. “Money and Da Power,” a track that Die Antwoord has performed a couple of times on live tour but didn’t include on TEN$ION has been leaked onto Soundcloud by some or other file-sharing hippie. It’s a neat song, though. They sample sound from The Godfather.
Obama seems to be going with the “sing when you’re winning” line of thought – first his rendition of Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together”, and now his 28-track long Campaign playlist has shown up on Spotify, to remind voters that he’s totally hip to the groove. Take a look to compare your tastes with the POTUS.
So! Die Antwoord’s new album, TEN$ION, is coming out tomorrow – the first release on their new, Interscope-free, indie label, ZEF Records. Which is cool. Even cooler is the fact that it’s available for free streaming on Dutch broadcasting channel 3VOOR12, in case you’re somebody who likes free stuff. Listen here.
OK Go did a song about the primary colours on Sesame Street. No other band would make me care about this, but OK Go are sort of the kings of viral videos. So click through for some stop-motion, a new track, and primary-coloured theme outfits. No spandex this time, though.
Only the coolest of hipsters will be aware of THE THUNDERBIRDS. People like Passion from The Dirty Skirts – he will know most of these names. And if you aren’t aware of these guys, then please ask anyone over 45 who spent time in Cape Town in the 70s and 80s. Your parents probably made […]
So! The shutdown MegaUpload and charging of founders with piracy ostensibly started with a copyright scuffle between the filesharing site and the Universal Music Group. Except the shut-down was also timed to scupper MegaBox, a venture to sell artist’s work directly to consumers while letting artists keep 90 percent of earnings. Raised eyebrows all around.
