South African football fans will remember February 3, 1996 very fondly. No? It was the day we beat Tunisia 2-0 in our own backyard and won the African Cup of Nations for the first time. Take a trip down memory lane with us HERE, to a time when we could actually hang on to a lead.
One of the heroes from that tournament was the great Doctor Khumalo, a man still talked of with much fondness. It seems that he is not loved by all, however, as his soon to be ex-wife is demanding a massive R45 000 per month in maintenance from the man known as ’16V’. Khumalo has been married to Blanche for the past eight years. This from TimesLive:
Speaking on his divorce and the reasons for it, Doc said he believed that his wife thought she was emotionally abusing him. He declined to comment on cheating allegations levelled against him by his wife.
In addition, Khumalo has had a charge of assault brought against him by the sheriff who delivered the divorce summons, although Doc maintains he merely ‘marshalled’ the man out of his house.
R45 000 remains a whole heap of change, even for a man who played professional football. Here’s hoping he has a few bob stashed away or else he may have to strap on the boots and suffer the ignominy of playing for Bafana once more.
