There seems to be a shroud of mystery surrounding the exact reason why the Durban Top Gear Festival has been moved to Jozi after an announcement made on Monday. It isn’t because Jeremy Clarkson is a racist bigot, although that has been public knowledge for quite some time.
Monday’s announcement saw James Cooke-Priest, chief operations officer of Top Gear Live, issue the following statement reproduced on TimesLive:
South Africa has always been one of our favourite destinations on the tour. We have a particular fondness for the crowds we entertain here, as they are always so loud and enthusiastic and return year after year to support us.
Although we will not be in Durban this year we are taking steps to stage an alternative Top Gear Live event in Johannesburg and we shall be announcing those plans shortly.
The event has been held in Durban for the past few years and has been a great success.
Any readers out there privy to some inside information? I’m sure there is something juicy going on that we are not getting let in on, do tell.
