  • People Are Flogging Royal Wedding Gift Bags For Ridiculous Prices

Jirre, mense. It hasn’t even been a full week since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tied the knot in a star-studded wedding, and already people are trying to make an extra buck off the business.

And no, we’re not talking about the weirdest bets that bookies and punters had placed on the ceremony.

How? By hawking the complimentary royal wedding gift bags for millions of rands on eBay.

Well, that’ll probably make some of you out there less guilty about running off with wedding centrepieces, but that’s not the point.

Here’s the deal: about 2 640 members of the public were lucky enough to be invited to join the royal wedding festivities at Windsor Castle last Saturday. They each received a gift bag containing items commemorating the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s marriage.

Basically, this gift turned into a money-grabbing opportunity.

Here’s what’s inside the bag, per the article by Fortune:

The gift bag contents include: a tote bag with the initials “HM”, and the date and venue of the wedding, an order of service booklet, a commemorative fridge magnet, a gold chocolate coin, a tub of “handbag shortbread”, a postcard, a bottle of spring water, and a 20% off voucher for the Windsor Castle gift shop.

Some of the hawkers have included only a selection of the items, while others are throwing in everything—including their entry tickets and wristbands from the wedding.

I swear, the absolute cheek of these attendees is unbelievable.

But the prices for these bags are just outrageous:

These goodies are going for more than £65 000, which translates to a sweet R1 million. Sjoe.

This is just one of 34 entries that are on eBay right now. The prices start from R1 800, and it looks like people are taking the bait. The R1 million entry above has already received over 50 bids, and is described as a “limited once in a lifetime opportunity to have a piece of royal history”.

*Sigh* If a bottle of water is enough to be regarded as a “piece of royal history”, I don’t know what to think about the human race anymore.
