This is not your finest work, Charles.

On Sunday, the 24-year-old Monacan (that’s what you call somebody from Monaco) was fortunate enough to get behind the wheel of the iconic 1974 Ferrari driven by three-time champion Niki Lauda.

During a demonstration run at the Monaco Historic Grand Prix, while getting to grips with the Ferrari 312 B3, Leclerc lost control of the car’s rear and crashed into the barriers.

The commentators were pretty sympathetic. You can see the crash from the 15-second mark:

    ESPN reports:

Speaking to former F1 driver Jacky Ickx, who was also on track demonstrating a 1972 Ferrari 312 B2 he drove in period, Leclerc appeared to say he lost the brakes on entry to the corner, while motioning a pedal going to the floor with his hands.

Leclerc managed to keep the car running after the impact but damage to the rear wing meant it was rubbing against the right rear wheel as he pulled up on the pit straight.

At least he can take some solace in the fact that the 1974 Ferrari also crashed last year in the same event, with former F1 driver Jean Alesi behind the wheel.

His team later announced that an issue with the car’s brakes caused the crash. At least Leclerc had a laugh about it on social media:

When you thought you already had all the bad luck of the world in Monaco and you lose the brakes into rascasse with one of the most iconic historical Ferrari Formula 1 car. 🙃🔫
