Whenever an election is rolling around, politicians head out into the world to do things to try and appear normal.
These things might include playing soccer, eating a bacon sandwich, or dancing.
Theresa May’s visit to Africa comes to mind. She danced like nobody was watching. Sadly, we were all watching, and we couldn’t look away.
Boris Johnson recently took a break from Brexit to “help” in Derbyshire, after some of the worst floodings that the region has seen in over a decade.
He’s campaigning for the United Kingdom’s general election, you see.
The British PM appeared in front of the cameras, mop in hand, at a flooded optician’s office in the town of Matlock, reports Business Insider.
What happened next has since gone viral on Twitter.
Look at him go:

Clearly the work of someone who has never handled a mop before.
More from Twitter:
That last one is a reference to the time Donald Trump threw paper towels at hurricane victims in Puerto Rico like he was handing out Oprah’s favourite things.
The world is in such good hands.
Back to Boris, whose failed attempt at mopping wasn’t the only way he alienated potential voters.
Johnson also caused controversy during his visit for suggesting that the flooding was not a national emergency.
He told reporters that while the government was ready to do whatever it took to help, it was “not looking like something we need to escalate to the level of a national emergency.”
People were not pleased.
This is one of those times when he shouldn’t have left 10 Downing Street at all.
I’ll leave you with this from 2012, when Boris was still Mayor of London:
I bet that metaphor is haunting him now.
