Georgia Guidestones, dubbed ‘America’s Stonehenge’, has been bombed.
The mysterious granite monument was set up with five slabs and topped by a capstone, all aligned astronomically so as to form a calendar, clock, and compass, with some slabs inscribed with instructions in various languages.
Sponsored by “a small group of [loyal] Americans who seek the Age of Reason” it seemed to have sparked the exact opposite, spawning conspiracies and invisible enemies for political factions to hate on instead.
It was blasted by a bomb yesterday morning, getting partially destroyed, before being completely demolished for “safety reasons”, according to Georgia’s state authorities.
Authorities are investigating after an apparent explosion at the Georgia Guidestones, which sit on a site 7 miles north of Elberton on Georgia Highway 77 and are often referred to as an American Stonehenge. https://t.co/0IoelA1gQF pic.twitter.com/t0fA1QmG1c

The BBC has the details of what the stones represented:
On each side of the capstone, engraved in four ancient languages – Babylonian cuneiform, Classical Greek, Sanskrit and Egyptian hieroglyphic – were the words: “Let these be guidestones to an Age of Reason.”
And written in eight languages – English, Russian, Mandarin Chinese, Arabic, Classical Hebrew, Swahili, Hindi and Spanish – were cryptic instructions for rebuilding society post Doomsday.
Besides those details that might make a particular person uncomfortable, the story of how the structure was commissioned doesn’t exactly lend it many favours, allowing for more speculation and chilling conspiracies.

In 1980, a man who called himself Robert C. Christian walked into a local granite workshop asking for a couple of rock slabs and to have them cut, describing a structure that would serve “as a guide for future generations”.
Marca continues:
Joe Fendley of Elberton Granite believed Mr. Christian was “a nut,” so he tried to scare him away by offering a commission quote that was significantly more expensive than any project the business had ever taken.
He also made an attempt to inform Mr. Christian that more resources and consultants would be needed for the Guidestones. Mr. Christian agreed to the quote, much to Mr. Fendley’s surprise.
Mr. Christian provided a scale model with 10 pages of specifications and claimed to speak for an unnamed group that had been planning the project for 20 years while arranging payment.
When the Georgia Guidestones were finished and revealed to a small group of people, a local pastor immediately believed that the stones existed for satanic rituals and devil worship, likely sparking a whole wave of fear and mistrust.
Right-wingers in the area took it upon themselves to make sure the monument would be destroyed or removed, with one Republican candidate for Governor in Georgia using it as a way to campaign for support.
Here’s Kandiss Taylor taking to Twitter to make demolishing the Guidestones an election issue:
God is God all by Himself. He can do ANYTHING He wants to do. That includes striking down Satanic Guidestones.

We’ll hand over to John Oliver to explain this particular chapter in the culture wars:
It’s Kandiss’ cheugy “Jesus, Guns, Babies” campaign bus slogan that really settles the matter.
